We would like to get his neuter and hernia repair done as soon as possible.ĭonations are needed pretty badly. The recommended surgery for the eyes is almost $2k and we have already spent well over $600 and his neuter and hernia repair with microchip and pain meds will be close to $500. The ophthalmologist was also unsure of his hearing however, his foster is pretty sure he can hear and was just being a chow. He also has small corneas so he is kind of cross eyed. The new vet referred him to an ophthalmologist for the entropion so he saw the ophthalmologist and Balu only has slight entropion in one lid and has a third eyelid like a cat.

So, we spent a lot of money and wasted time that Balu could have been getting the surgeries he does need for adoption like, neuter and umbilical hernia repair. So, we took him to a different vet who did X-Rays and sent a urine culture out.

I requested a urine culture to be sent to the lab so that the bacteria could be identified and that vet felt it was unnecessary. After that course, he was brought back for another recheck and he showed positive for a UTI still. When he went in for a recheck we were told he still had a UTI so he was put on another 21 days of antibiotics. His foster followed instructions for his UTI. It took two consecutive groomings to get all the mats and dead fleas and flea dirt off. We took him to one vet who diagnosed entropion, an umbilical hernia, and a urinary tract infection as well as an eye infection and he was covered in fleas. I several projects I am working on when I am better to bring more funding into the rescue.īalu was rescued almost two months ago in really bad condition. He celebrated his 20 th birthday in July of 2021 with a party, cake, and bubble bath.Lately I have been sick battling an infection and I have not been able to do fundraising like I need to. Although he misses his brothers, he is a very happy and healthy bear. Baloo, is the sole surviving member of the BLT trio.

They are skilled survivors and have a conservation status of “least concerned” despite the increasing number of human/bear conflicts. American black bears are native to most of North America and vary greatly in both size (the largest recorded was over 800 lbs) and color (can be black, brown, or blonde). Baloo is a very confident and relaxed bear and will do anything for a sweet treat. After his surgery, Baloo was returned to his brothers and the three lived together happily for many years, with hardly a quarrel between them. During Baloo’s surgery was the only time the three BLT brothers were ever separated from one another, and Shere Khan (tiger) and Leo (lion) became extremely agitated because of it, pacing and vocalizing for the lost member of their family to return. The harness was so ingrown that his flesh had begun to grow over and around it, and surgical intervention was required to remove the harness and clean his deep, infected wounds. Baloo, an American black bear, was in the worst condition of the three cubs rescued with a severely ingrown harness digging into his flesh because it was never loosened as he grew in size.
